In light of that, PC users will benefit most from a top-of-the-line GPU to bring out the full potential of Dead Island 2‘s graphics. While a more recent release date for the CPUs doesn’t necessarily make them more expensive, it does make it more difficult for PC owners who haven’t upgraded in a while to achieve the game’s recommended 2K and 4K settings. For an optimal 4K experience, PC users will need either the 3-month-old AMD RyX or the now 6-month-old Intel i7-13700.
Running the game in a 2K resolution requires an AMD Ryzen 7 7700X, which was just released last year, or the Intel i5-12600KF, which was released back in 2021. The 2K and 4K CPU requirements for Dead Island 2 are a much different story. That being said, a frame rate of 60 fps is far preferable and will require newer, but still rather affordable CPUs: the AMD Ryzen 5 5600X or the Intel i9-9900K. Both of these CPUs are around six years old at this point, so most computers manufactured within that timeframe should work just fine. While not desirable, an AMD FX-9590 or an Intel i7-7700HQ can achieve a steady 30 fps at 1080p.
"That took some mental remapping of what this game is going to be, and while I do find the smaller scope disappointing, it's not without its benefits too.As previously stated, most PC users should be able to play Dead Island 2 in 1080p without many technical issues, and that is evidenced by the game’s CPU requirements. "Action-RPGs, especially zombie-centric ones, have so often utilized an open-world setting over the past 15 years that it was, for a good while, jarring to see that Dead Island 2 isn't actually the latest in a long line of them," Mark Delaney wrote in GameSpot's Dead Island 2 preview. Dead Island 2 launches on April 21, 2023, and it'll also be available for Xbox Series X|S, PS5, Xbox One, and PS4.
